The Pentagon's decision to abandon Syrian rebels in the middle of an offensive in the strategically-important border town of al-Bukamal in favor of bombing a Daesh convoy in Iraq resulted in an embarrassing defeat for the US-sponsored New Syrian Army, prompting many to ask whether US is capable and (or) willing to defeat the brutal group.
